Tātai Aho Rau Core Education From vision to action – An organisational approach to equity

Tātai Aho Rau Core Education

Organisational commitment

Equity is not a destination; it’s an ongoing commitment. It’s a journey about learning and leading. Our story begins with our vision for “an equitable and thriving Aotearoa where all learners can experience success”. We also know that vision is not enough to get the mahi done. Te Kawenata Tamariki o Waitaha offers another tool in our toolkit to deliver learning solutions and research programmes that reflect our kaupapa and commitment to equity and inclusion across the education sector.

Practical actions

We have long been Tiriti o Waitangi honouring because we value our partnership with local iwi and hapū. Identifying ways to meet the expectations and needs of the people we serve is a critical success factor. We take action to up our game through a series of projects, policies, and processes:

  • Te Kāhui Hautū | Senior Leaders consult with Te Aho Māori, our Māori advisory team, to inform policy and planning.
  • Learning solutions are reviewed by Māori kaimahi during the scope and planning phase and again during quality assurance.
  • Kaimahi workshops and webinars support te reo Māori, tikanga, and cultural competency knowledge and practice.
  • Tikanga Māori is embedded in our day-to-day practices through karakia, waiata, mihimihi, and whakatau for kaimahi.
  • Voices of service users and stakeholders impacted by decisions and solutions are included in the design and review phases of projects and programmes.
  • Experienced Māori kaimahi present workshops about history, legislation, and the impact of colonisation.

Sharing and learning

We share our learnings and experiences through social media, blogs, and ongoing professional learning and development, which contribute to our expertise in learning design. Next steps and new ideas are included in our strategic plans and projects to maintain consistency and relevance. Te Kawenata Tamariki o Waitaha fits our kaupapa and keeps us on task.

These initiatives enable us to model the change we want to see in our partner organisations that work with tamariki and rangatahi.
